The Types of Pond Plants described.

Floating pond plants
Are great for taking up space. Floating pond plants will help clear murky water. They continuously absorb nitrates and phosphates in the water which are the leading nutrients that promote algae growth. The roots on floating plants also make great spawning media for both fish and frogs. Certain floating plants are restricted in some states due to their invasive nature. In order to keep floating pond plants out of the skimmer box you can quarantine them with fishing line fastened accross the pond or around the plant.

Water Lilies
are a fantastic pond plant. There are over 50 named varieties of water lilies, all varying in lily pad size, flower shape, flower color, pad variegation, and at what point during the day their bloom opens. Water lilies also provide great pond shade which helps reduce algae growth. It also provides a hiding place for fish to escape from their top predators, blue herons and racoons. Did I mention frogs love lilypads? If you have a question regarding water lilies don't hesitate to ask us by sending us an email at pondplantsdirect@gmail.com.

Lotus
pond plants are among the largest variety of pond plants. Most lotus plants shoot up thick lotus pads that emerge 6in to 24in out of the water. Their pads are also waterproof which is very cool. Lotus need at least 4 square feet worth of room to grow. 5 gallon pots are recommended.

Submerged pond plants
, also known as oxygenators, replenish the oxygen near the bottom of the pond which is essential for keeping a balanced ecosystem. Fish love to eat submerged plants. They will even lay their eggs on them. We sell them in bundles with about 4-6 strands that are about 6" in length. These plants will grow in length, they can get nearly 10ft.

Koi are great for Ponds

Carp are known as koi in Japan. Of the various domesticated carp species, the common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is one of the more commonly used in aquaculture. In Japanese, 'koi' is a homophone for another word that means 'affection' or 'love'; koi are therefore symbols of love and friendship in Japan.

We import our koi all the way from Israel, they are selectively bread.
